New Urbanism: Rx for Healthy Places
Increasing scientific evidence suggests that community design - land use, design character, transportation systems, sustainability, and density - can promote and improve the overall health of a community. Examples of successful community design include the promotion of physical activity; decreased the risk of obesity, heart disease, and hypertension; the improvement of social equity, community connection, and healthy food access; and much more.
Organized with assistance from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Congress for the New Urbanism 18 will present new research and innovative techniques for assessing the health impact of land use, transportation planning, and community design decisions.
