The Pride of New York Program

The Pride of New York program is a community-based program that strives to increase awareness and distribution of New York agricultural products throughout New York City and State.

This program worked with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Bodega Association of the United States to feature fresh New York State apple slices and baby peeled carrots in 750 bodegas in the Bronx and Manhattan. Since February 2007, the snack-sized packages—known as “Grab Apples” and “Carrot Crunchers”—have been sold in participating bodegas for 50 cents, less than the cost of a candy bar. The healthy snacks are produced by the Champlain Valley Specialty of New York, a fruit processing facility in Clinton County.
