Community Health Worker National Workforce Study
This study demonstrated the value of Community Health Workers in the health care workforce. NYSHealth is invested in community health workers as a means of improving access to care and also as a linkage between communities and health care and social service providers.
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are members of the local community who work in association with the local health care system and usually share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, and life experiences with the community members they serve. It has been well documented that the CHW model is both a strategy to provide culturally appropriate care and a cost effective approach for health promotion. NYSHealth is committed to advancing the CHW model to further curb the diabetes epidemic.
