A Recommendation to Improve Employee Weight Status through Worksite Health

March 2010

This October 2009 American Journal of Preventive Medicine article highlights the problems caused by obesity in a work setting based on the accompanying review, “The Effectiveness of Worksite Nutrition and Physical Activity Interventions for Controlling Employee Overweight and Obesity: A systematic Review.”

This article offers a summary of reasons to address obesity in the workplace. The article argues that promotion of healthy lifestyle changes in diet and nutrition could have large implications for the workforce in general because of the reduction in productivity that is caused by obesity and diabetes.
