March 2010

This October 2009 American Journal of Preventive Medicine article proposes the effectiveness of “worksite nutrition and activity programs” in helping workers live healthier lifestyles.

This article serves as the basis for the Task Force on Community Preventive Service’s “A Recommendation to Improve Employee Weight Status through Worksite Health Promotion Programs Targeting Nutrition, Physical Activity, or Both.” The article’s key finding is that worksite physical activity interventions have been responsible for an average of a 2.8 pound reduction in employee weight and a 0.5 reduction in Body Mass Index.
