QuickStats: Age-Adjusted Death Rates for Diabetes, by Race and Sex
This graph, produced by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shows the diabetes death rates in the United States from 1979 to 2006. It also depicts the racial disparities in diabetes mortality.
Disparities in diabetes exist by age, gender, socio-economic status, and race. This graph shows that black males and females have about double the death rate of their white counterparts. Furthermore, the upward trend in diabetes-related death over the last 30 years is dramatic. There is a slight decline in the last few years, and NYSHealth hopes to support programming to continue this downward trend.
