Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a federal agency overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services.

With a 2007 budget of $3.3 billion, SAMHSA funds and administers a wide range of grant programs and contracts through its three Centers and supporting Offices. SAMHSA identifies Co-Occurring Disorders as one of its twelve program priority areas with the goal of expanding and improving prevention, appropriate treatment, and other supportive services to individuals with or at risk of developing co-occurring disorders.
