June 2009

The mission of the National Center for PTSD is to advance the clinical care and social welfare of America's veterans through research, education, and training in the science, diagnosis, and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other stress-related disorders.

The Center is organized to facilitate translation of science into practice, ensuring that the latest research findings inform clinical care; and translation of practice into science, ensuring that questions raised by clinical challenges are addressed using rigorous experimental protocols. Although the VA National Center on PTSD does not provide treatment services, this Web site has resources and information of interest to veterans and their family members regarding PTSD, its symptoms, and how to treat the disorder. Links to fact sheets, guides, and specific information on dealing with war trauma, and advice for family members of veterans can be found here.
