The Pulse of Main Street New York

Small Business United for Health Care released this report on New York small business owners’ experiences with health insurance and views on reform. The report, The Pulse of Main Street New York, is based on a survey of over 200 small business owners from across the state.

Specifically the report suggests that small business owners want: (1) stable, predictable health care costs rather than unpredictable premiums which can dramatically rise in one year; (2) to eliminate policies that disadvantage small businesses with less coverage at a higher cost based on their size; (3) to modify regulatory standards to protect small businesses from harmful practices of private insurers such as preexisting condition exclusions and discriminatory rating practices; (4) a public health insurance option alongside private options; (5) and to contribute to a health care system that delivers real value and in which all stakeholders pay a fair share.
