New York State Medicaid Enrollment Statistics

The New York State Department of Health keeps statistics on Medicaid. Children are at greatest risk when families are uninsured. Because many important health problems start in childhood, the lack of coverage—and access to care—for children has been a longstanding concern.

The two major publicly funded programs to enable children to obtain health care are Medicaid and SCHIP. Some 4.1 million people were enrolled in the Medicaid program as of June 2007. On average, 3.4 million people were enrolled in the New York State Medicaid program at the beginning of 2007. Almost 70% of these enrollees lived in New York City.
