Medical Expenditures Panel Survey

The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) is a set of large-scale surveys of families and individuals, their medical providers, and employers across the United States. MEPS data are compiled by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

MEPS contains both household and insurance components. The household component includes interviews with families and individuals to determine their demographics, health conditions, health status, use of medical services, charges and source of payments, access to care, satisfaction with care, health insurance coverage, income, and employment. The insurance component includes data collected from public and private employers about the health insurance plans they offer their employees, including premiums, employee contributions, and deductibles. This section of the MEPS offers tables for each state by firm size, industry classification, ownership and age of firm, wage quartiles, and metro area.
