Coordinating New York’s Medicaid and Food Stamp Programs: Making It Easier for Families to Access the Benefits They Need
This report by the Children’s Defense Fund looks at how coordination of New York’s Medicaid and Food Stamp Programs would make it easier for families to access critical public benefits.
The report details points of alignment and disconnect between public health insurance and Food Stamp eligibility, enrollment, and renewal. A family attempting to enroll in both Food Stamps and the New York Medicaid program often must complete two sets of forms, provide duplicate documentation, and go through separate in-person interviews. The Children’s Defense Fund makes seven systematic and legislative recommendations for the two programs.
