Diabetes Care Analysis–Savings Estimates (Bridges to Excellence)

The Diabetes Care Analysis–Savings Estimates were written by Bridges to Excellence. They present actuarial estimates of the per-patient savings for physicians who achieve recognition through the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program, a voluntary program for individual physicians and physician groups that provide care to people with diabetes.

Based on the National Committee for Quality Assurance Diabetes Physician Recognition program, eligible physicians who demonstrate they are top performers in diabetes care can earn up to $100 for each diabetic patient they serve who is covered by a participating employer. Employers fund these incentives from the savings they achieve through lower health care costs and increased employee productivity, which result from better care. Initial results of this program have shown that diabetes care will improve if physicians know what processes and outcomes are essential, collect data on what they do, and are able to review aggregate data from their patient population.
