Kavita Das joined the New York State Health Foundation in August 2007. As Program Officer, Ms. Das focuses on developing and managing grantmaking programs in diabetes care and other issue areas.
Ms. Das has 10 years of experience in community health and development across the government, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors. Most recently, she served as the Program Director for the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Komen Greater NYC), where she oversaw grantmaking programs supporting breast health services for underserved populations, clinical trial enrollment, and breast health educational programs. At Komen Greater NYC, Ms. Das developed an assessment of the breast health needs in the greater New York City area and spearheaded improvements in the application, review, and grants management processes, which improved the quality of funded programs. Ms. Das also advocated for increased government funding for vital breast health education, treatment, and research programs at the national and local levels.
Prior to Komen Greater NYC, Ms. Das was Manager of Special Projects for the Department of Community Pediatrics at the American Academy of Pediatrics where she oversaw the department’s strategic planning process and managed projects that sought to bridge pediatrics and public health. Ms. Das has also held positions focused on community and economic development in the city governments of Philadelphia and Jersey City.
Ms. Das has a Master of Business Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Bryn Mawr College. She currently serves on the Grants & Allocation Advisory Committee of the New York Women’s Foundation.
