Initiatives and Policies Addressing Health Insurance Coverage

The uninsurance problem is so serious that many organizations throughout New York State are trying to address it. Below is a sampling of their efforts.

Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force – Adirondack Medical Center

The Uninsured Task Force is a partnership of organizations, agencies, and businesses representing the full spectrum of health care providers and consumers working together to improve access to health insurance.

Brooklyn HealthWorks

Brooklyn HealthWorks was developed by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Group Health, Inc. (GHI), a consortium of health care providers, and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President. It provides small business owners with a low-cost health insurance plan option.

HealthPass

HealthPass was developed by the City of New York, in partnership with the New York Business Group on Health, to provide small businesses and their employees in all five boroughs with a multitude of insurance coverage options and administrative assistance. HealthPass has one enrollment form and employers receive one itemized bill, no matter which different plans their employees choose.

Healthy NY

Healthy NY is a state-subsidized reinsurance program that reimburses health plans that assist small business owners, uninsured sole proprietors, self-employed workers to purchase comprehensive coverage.
