Organizations Working to Improve Integrated Services
Statewide, local, and national mental health and substance use organizations and agencies are playing a critical role in improving care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. While most of the following organizations are more focused on addressing either mental health or substance use issues, several have developed policies and programs aimed at improving care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Addiction Treatment Technology Centers
The Addition Treatment Technology Centers Network (ATTC), a network of 14 regional centers and a National Office was founded by SAMHSA in 2003 as a technical assistance resource for professionals in the addictions treatment and recovery services field.
Co-Occurring Center for Excellence
The Co-Occurring Center for Excellence (COCE) was created in September 2003 by SAMHSA. As the first national resource in the field of Co-Occurring Disorders (COD), COCE has been the main source of support for efforts to integrate mental health and substance use services at the state, community, and provider level

New York State has a large, multi-faceted mental health system that serves more than 500,000 individuals each year. The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) operates psychiatric centers across the State, and regulates, certifies and oversees more than 2,500 programs operated by local governments and nonprofit agencies.
